Cemex contributes to Egypt’s first concrete highway

Cemex in Egypt has contributed to the paving of Egypt’s first concrete highway. The road, which is approximately 22 miles, connects Cairo with the seaport city of Suez – two of the nations most economic centres.

Cemex in Egypt supplied 130 000 m3 of concrete for the Cairo-Suez highway. This concrete paving solution offers this country a number of advantages over traditional asphalt roads, namely greater durability, higher tolerance, better visibility especially at night, superior resistance to severe weather, lover periodic maintenance and higher road safety.

Cemex is new to supplying concrete technology to roads in Egypt. Starting in 2011, Cemex in Egypt demonstrated the beneficial characteristics of concrete paving to Egypt’s General Authority of Roads and Bridges by working closely with the private sector on several pavement projects. After three years of workshops, studies and deliberations, Cemex in Egypt was granted permission to initiate the Cairo-Suez project.

The preparation, design capabilities, road tolerance, and permanence of the solution, combined with the high on-site performance and expertise of CEMEX in Egypt, resulted in the Authority’s decision to invest in the construction of this important highway.
