Is offsite construction the answer to hitting housing targets?

According to some reports, as long as central government and regional public sector bodies continue to rely on the current private sector for sale led delivery as the main method of housing policy, they will continue to miss the targets mapped out for house building. The claims made by some reports came in response to the announcement that the GLA is considering a move to directly deliver housing in London to increase housebuilding.

It is clear that the UK has fallen behind on house building targets over the past few years. It is now predicted that a total of 250 000 homes need to be delivered annually in order to tackle spiralling house prices and the critical shortage of affordable homes.

The housing crisis calls for the need for a mass volume of homes to be constructed in a limited time scale. The benefits of offsite construction could be crucial to meeting targets that have repeatedly been missed.

Offsite construction offers many clear benefits to enhance the UK housing industry. These benefits will be discussed at the Explore Offsite Housing event, being held in Birmingham on 7 July 2015.

The event will focus on industry issues such as keynotes from the new government on its ‘manufactured housing' priorities, discussions with public and private sector clients on their initiatives and case studies of live projects, from the teams delivering them.

Over 250 industry innovators will be in attendance at the event alongside approximately 30 offsite technology manufacturers who will create the complementary exhibition.
