Over 900 young people will begin their apprenticeships with ThyssenKrupp on 1 August or 1 September 2014. It takes the total number of apprenticeship places in the Group in Germany to around 3400, slightly higher than in 2013.

"We are delighted that so many young people have chosen ThyssenKrupp as their apprenticeship provider. Well-trained skilled workers are the basis for innovation and progress," said Oliver Burkhard, CHRO of ThyssenKrupp AG. The dual system of vocational education and training is a key success factor for the industrial group, which offers over 50 different apprenticeship occupations in Germany ranging from office clerk to chemical laboratory worker to materials tester to machinist.

The apprenticeship training rate has been steady at 5.6% for many years. Of the young people who finished their apprenticeships in 2013, 73% were retained. Most of ThyssenKrupp's apprenticeship places continue to be in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, where over 60% of the Group's apprentices complete their 3-year programmes with various subsidiaries. In this way, the Group is also meeting its responsibility for the region, said Burkhard.
