According to local press, Maple Leaf Cement and Pakistan Railways have signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding the transportation of cement from Daud Khel to Karachi. The MoU agreement is valid for an initial period of three years. The freight trains utilised to bring the cement to Karachi would return to Daud Khal carrying coal for various power plants.

Meanwhile in India, ASSOCHAM has urged the country’s Minister for Railways to consider a ‘mega plan’ to aid economic growth to 2030. In addition to enhanced passenger services, the plan proposes a 7-corridor high speed freight network for the transportation of goods between manufacturing areas, consumers and ports. It also recommends investing in increasing rail capacity, helping to generate jobs while driving demand for cement, steel, rail wagons and other equipment.
